foom.com Limited (“we” or “us”) takes your privacy seriously. This Privacy Policy sets out how we protect your personal information and how any personal data we collect from you will be used by us.

For the purpose of the Data Protection Act 1998 (“Act”), foom.com Limited (Company Number 6406730), Moneysupermarket House, St David's Park, Ewloe, Chester, CH5 3UZ is the data controller in relation to the Services and your personal data. If you have any queries relating to our use of your personal data or any other data protection issues, please contact our Data Protection Officer at dataprivacy@foom.com. Defined terms used here shall bear their meaning in the Terms of Use.

Please read this Privacy Policy carefully as once you use our Services you will be regarded as having read and accepted this Privacy Policy. You must not use our Website or our Services if you do not accept this Privacy Policy.

We reserve the right to amend this Privacy Policy at any time. Your continued use of our Website or the Services after we have amended this Privacy Policy signifies your acceptance of the revised Privacy Policy.

The information we collect

When you register with us, we ask for your name, your email address, your hometown, your date of birth and your gender. You can enter additional personal details on your own profile page such as places you go to or where you work or study.

We do not sell this information to third parties. However, without identifying who you are, we may share this information with third parties such as advertisers or promoters. This enables these third parties to personalise and customise adverts and promotions that may be of particular interest to you according to your age, gender, interests or where you live etc. For example, if you live in Manchester, we might serve you an advert promoting a restaurant in Manchester.

If you provide us with personal information on another person (someone you fancy, for example) we will only:

  • share this personal information with third parties such as advertisers or promoters if the person in question has also registered on our Website.
  • make publicly available on our Website limited information on that person. That information is restricted to their first and last name, their known name, their age range, their key physical attributes (height, hair colour and eye colour) and their hometown. When that person registers on our Website, they can edit, add to or delete their personal information or profile.

All registered users have full control over what personal information is displayed on their profile on our Website and can edit, add or delete their personal information or profile at any time. If you wish to have your profile removed from our Website, log into the site and then follow the prompts under Contact Us at the foot of every page. We recommend that you exercise caution in deciding what information you disclose on the Website.

If you send someone an anonymous message on foom.com, your chosen username (your ‘foomie’ name) will be displayed. It is important therefore that the username you select does not relate to your real name so that you can maintain your anonymity when using our Website.

When you enter the name of someone you fancy on our Website, you can also enter their email address. We do not make these email addresses public to other users of our Website. However we do store these email addresses to match admirers with people they fancy. Recipients of email invitations can contact us to request that we remove their personal information (including their email address) from our database. Such requests should be emailed to dataprivacy@foom.com.

We also record non-personally-identifiable information such as your IP address and browser type to improve and manage your website experience. This non-personally-identifiable information may be shared with third parties to provide more relevant services and advertisements to you.

Purposes for which we use information about you

We may use your personal information for the following purposes:

  • to enable you to access and use the Services.
  • to personalise aspects of our overall service to you.
  • to communicate with you.
